What's Working Now! BASS--(Up River) Covering water, slinging a crankbait (XPS Nitro Minnow), will get you into the larger concentrations of fish. A rapid retrieve, beating the bank, while scanning the surface for any visual indicators of fleeing bait will narrow your search to a productive area. After locating a school, pick it apart with a variety of baits: XPS Firetiger Deep Nitro Crank, 4" BPS Shadee Shad, XPS Gold Shad Suspending Nitro Minnow, and the new Bassmaster Tungsten 3/8 oz. White Spinnerbait with changeable blades (switched to #3 and #3.5 XPS silver willow leaf) should all pull in several more. (With the scaled down blades it makes a great "burning" bait!) (Main Lake) Open water points and humps with topwater stickbaits, spinnerbaits, and hard and soft jerkbaits will boat the bass. KEEP MOVING! Key on chunk rock points with big flats adjacent. (Dark Clay Points are primo!) Find the bait and you'll find the fish. Keep a 1/2oz. jigging spoon handy to sling into breaking fish or chase them under the surface. This time of year is one of the best opportunities for the Spot of a lifetime. CRAPPIE-- Have moved out over brush in 6'-12' of water. A BPS Tripple Ripple in white/chartreuse/sparkle and white/yellow/chartreuse on a 1/16th oz. jighead reeled slowly over the tops of the brush in the backs of creeks have still been producing high numbers and some larger fish. STRIPERS--Run and Gun the south end throwing stickbaits, bucktails, jerkbaits, and 5" weighted XPS Shadee Shads and you will catch your fair share of Stripers. The night bite is picking up on Long A Bombers as well. Pink/Silver and Blue/Silver has been leaving many sore arms over the past weeks. Find the bait and you'll find the stripers! Look in the upper river (Hooch) creek backs for large bait schools, also. Full blown topwater time is here! Good luck to all! |
